What we want to understand
FTSZA is developing its research agenda around how South African sport operates. This proposed focus asks how trial information moves between clubs, academies and the people hoping to participate.
Early conversations would help establish whether information access is a meaningful problem, who experiences it and which questions deserve closer investigation. We have not yet established the scale, causes or effects of any gaps.
Questions to explore
- Where do clubs and academies announce trials, and how do players and parents discover those announcements?
- What information do people need about dates, eligibility, location, costs and registration?
- How do people check whether an announcement is genuine, current and authorised by the organisation?
- How are changes or cancellations communicated?
- What works well today, and where might organisations or participants encounter difficulties?
These are questions for discussion, not a checklist of confirmed problems. Conversations may point to a different issue or show that the proposed question needs to change.
How the scope would be developed
FTSZA plans to test the question through early conversations with club and academy staff, coaches, players, parents and other relevant participants. These perspectives would help define a manageable research scope before any formal study is proposed.
Technology is one possible response. Clearer communication, changes to processes or better use of existing channels may prove more appropriate. No product or solution has been selected for this proposed focus.
Who we would like to hear from
Clubs and academies that advertise or manage trials; coaches and administrators who communicate with participants; and players or parents with experience of finding trial information are invited to contribute a perspective.
Sporting bodies, researchers, funders and strategic partners can also help challenge the question or discuss what useful evidence would look like.

An enquiry does not enrol anyone in research or commit an organisation to a partnership. Any future participation would need its purpose, scope, permissions and handling of information explained and agreed first.
